“What you give, is what you get back”
So, I decided to go to the Veteran Village Thursday to help them out again. This time I was serving the pizza I brought in with another class mate of mine helping me out and boy do Veterans love pizza. Another classmate of mine and I both brought in about 4 boxes each. About 7 minutes into it every single slice was gone which was very funny.
We got a slice of cake that was left over and some sodas and hung out for a little bit and talked with some of the veterans, shortly after that we simply cleaned up, and took are selfie as a group, which took Dr.Soldani about 7-8 tries to take the selfie.
I must say serving the pizza to me personally was better than standing in the front at first. Just the facial expressions the Veterans had after grabbing a couple slices of pizza really did open my eyes about how much they really do appreciate us. The communication from outside saying your greetings and when you are actually serving the pizza are both great ways to make eye contact with people and hear a lot about what they went through was great.
There are many things I could have done to help the community and giving food to the Veterans at Veteran Village made me feel good about myself at the end of the day. For example, I was at “Whataburger” and seen the man serving me the food and noticed that he himself was a Veteran who I remembered giving a slice of pizza to, I said hello to him his name was Kyle and told Kyle I’m there every Thursday with my class, Kyles tells me thank you and ended up giving me two extra free honey butter chicken biscuit.
