“Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.”
At my first ever Veterans lunch bag making with some classmates was an experience of a lifetime. My job was to bring in cookies to be able to contribute with everyone else’s treats, to create a unique lunch bag for these veterans. I went to Publix and picked out double stuffed Oreos, regular kind and vanilla, with some soft chips Ahoy cookies… yum. I separated the cookies with four in each bag, two of each flavor. If you ask me, I believe that’s a great combination! After I separated all my cookies, we put them into paper brown bags with everyone else’s treats and created a nice lunch for them to enjoy.
I believe this made me a better person and made me feel good about myself. Giving just as little as cookies can easily make someone else’s day. After I was finished, I would think to myself, “wow, I just made a difference, and by not doing that much”. I maybe spent 15$, which is nothing if you look at the bigger picture and was able to make 20 lunch bags. Going one time wasn’t enough and led me to go the following week.
Everyone should contribute because like I mentioned; Giving back something so little can really impact someone’s day or even future. I left TCC that day feeling great about myself, and why shouldn’t everyone get that feeling? I believe what goes around comes back around. This event didn’t even take longer than a hour, and still those lunch bags made someone’s day !
