“We need more kindness, more compassion, more joy, more laughter. I definitely want to contribute to that.”- Ellen DeGeneres
I got to finally experience participating in serving dinner at the Veteran’s Village. The same night I got to help my professor celebrate the Village getting named after her for her several years of volunteer work. I cut the cake and served it to the many veterans who passed through to get their Thursday night dinner. They grabbed their drinks, then circled around the counter for their plates, and then come to me for their piece of cake and a glowing smile.
Just as Ellen says in her quote, “We need more kindness, more compassion, more joy, more laughter”, I am a firm believer of all of it. I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people, listening to their stories, and creating smiles. You can do the same with a simple conversation or helping in the community. People can feel your energy and your positive passion if you mean what your doing and put your heart into it.
I believe that everyone needs to contribute their kinds. You never know what someone is going through at the end of the day and a simple hello, or smile can overrun a dark cloud that they can’t get rid of.
