“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” ― Barack Obama
I remember walking into my 10:00 am class, and as always I go for the desk right in front of Dr. Soldani class because I know good and well if I sit in the back, I will definitely not be able to focus I know I need to jot down everything she says during lectures. As class starts Dr.Soldani introduced an event to the class. An event that she has been doing for almost 10 years every 2 weeks, and offered our class to volunteer at the veteran’s village. When I think about veteran’s village I think of a private community for veterans, in this case the veteran’s village in Tallahassee is a program and facility that provides housing for many veterans that don’t have a roof over their head. Many of these veterans were discharged from the military. They maintain their self’s in this facility because they have a various amount of health issues like PTSD, antisocial disorders, brain injuries anything tragic that can possibly happen in the war. these woman and men that have served our country simply don’t have the ability to make an income to provide for them self’s. This program allows these veterans to stabilize their lives by support these veterans with education, mental health services, training, counseling and even employment. while this program is not a temporary shelter, veterans can only live here for 2 years.
Because I have always wanted to serve my country and because I plan to sign my life to the US army as an army Officer, I had an urgent desire to want to give back to my community and help these people that have served my country. I know that these people may have a roof over their head but sometimes you never know they could not have the ability to go to the grocery store and make their self a meal. Dr Soldani explained to us that every 2 weeks we provide a whole much of meals with a variety of desserts for them to take so that they can have a homemade meal to eat. During my experience we all collaborated together and served veterans to-go plates with a full meal through the process we came up with a quick technique to prepare the plates so that veterans can come through and just grab their plates.
Helping and volunteering veteran’s village allowed me to want to provide more for my community and help the community because there are people out in this world that need assistance than anything else. With integrity and just a kind gesture and the thought of sharing your own time to provide for others is the fact that matters. For the both times I volunteered I have had two exams on the following day, but I made the sacrifice to provide and help these veterans because I know they need it. My mother always told me “god will always see the good if you do good things in like, good will come to you “I came to and appreciate life and my family more because I know that no matter what my family would always have my support and my back and will never allow me to fail. And always provide a roof for me to stay. I am grateful to have scholarships and a roof over my head which has allowed to further my education. I am grateful that I had the ability to be part of the ROTC program at Florida state. And took the path to become someone in this world and make a difference in the health care system.
I believe that everyone should contribute to helping the people around you that need it in the community. I always put it in a way that maybe one day I will need help or assistance and for the betterment of the world. Be the change you want to see in this world.
